About

Artist Statement

As the daughter of an artist, I have been creating art for as long as I can remember.  I began making art quilts in the 1990’s and retired from full time employment in 2002 so that I could spend my time making art.

The inspiration for my work comes from the interaction of color, place and nature. I dye and paint fabric and paper and love unexpected results. The work begins with the fabric (or paper) and a variety of techniques. For my art quilts, I sometimes machine piece and machine quilt the piece.  At other times, I find that the fabric is complete by itself as a whole cloth piece. I often work on a number of pieces simultaneously because I work intuitively and need time to study the work on the design wall before deciding how to proceed to the next step. Text is a common element in my work, as it can provide texture and meaning. I look for a balance of light, line, color, space and form.
